It's funny how everyone thinks you can't loose weight through yoga, though all the yoga teachers and serious practicioners have a great body!
Yoga is vigorous exercise. You need balance, concentration and endurance. We don't use weights, we use our entire body weight! When you go trough a Vinyasa, you do about 15 triceps push-ups without even noticing it. Everything in life starts with thought. Every invention out there, was first a thought, then made a reality. So how do these thoughts interact with our brain and more importantly, how do our thoughts create our reality? Whenever we have a problem, we search the solution outside ourselves. What most of us don't realize is that the power to change our lives, resides within. Science has proven that our thoughts change the chemical composition of our brain! When we turn to positive thoughts, deep breathing and relaxing our mind, we are rewiring our own brain! The woman in the photogrpah is Tao Porchon-Lynch. She is the oldest yogini in the world. She's 98 years old and she looks amazing! She is still practicing everyday and she is one of the only people in the world that is still completely independant of others at her age.
The adrenal glands are small glands just above the kidneys that are responsible for producing several hormones and androgens such as adrenaline, cortisol and aldosterone.
Feeling tired all the time and craving salty foods? You might be suffering from adrenal fatigue, a syndrome to describe poor functioning of the adrenal glands. When you are stressed, the adrenals react by producing cortisol to make you feel good. If the stress is longterm however, the body isn't able to continue producing this amount of cortisol and adrenal fatigue sets in. You can relieve adrenal fatigue through a diet low in sugar, caffeine and junk food and by practicing yoga. A study in Philadeplhia revealed that certain poses like Shoulderstand, Locust Pose, Tree Pose and Plough significantly decreased cortisol in the body. This might explain why people generally feel more relaxed almost immediately after a yoga class. Lowering your cortisol levels is also beneficial for your waistline. When cortisol levels are high, our body craves unhealthy and fatty food. Those extra calories you eat when you are feeling angry or depressed, are distributed in the abdomen. This belly fat is quite dangerous and can lead to diabetes and eventually, heart attack. So do yourself and your family a favor and take up yoga so you can be a healthier and more relaxed version of yourself! |
